Daddy isn’t here for Father’s Day this year, the Army had dibs on him, but here is one of my favorite “Fatherly” photos of Him and Little Miss. This picture melts my heart. We are sending Daddy tons of love today and saying prayers for him as we head off to Liturgy this morning.

Sometimes the simplest things are the best. For Father’s day we made Daddy a 6 month footprint cast in a tin (easier said than done, there was plaster everywhere it was great fun). I bought a bunch of them so we can keep track of her hands and feet as they grow to mark the changes since Daddy has left.

I purchased these tins in a stack of 5 from Mother’s Haven a local specialty Mommy store and they are meant to do for each birthday. This particular tin said “My handprint when I was 1” but because I am going to be using the tins to show Little Miss as she grows during Daddy’s deployment I print out corrections on labels and put it over the tins.

God our Father, We give you thanks and praise for fathers young and old.

We pray for young fathers, newly embracing their vocation; May they find courage and perseverance to balance work, family and faith in joy and sacrifice.

We pray for our own Fathers around the world whose children are lost or suffering; May they know that the God of compassion walks with them in their sorrow.

We pray for men who are not fathers but still mentor and guide us with fatherly love and advice.

We remember fathers, grandfather, and great grandfathers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love. Amen

What fun things did you get Daddy this year? Did you do anything special? If your Father or Husband is away this Father’s Day where are they and how did you “celebrate” with the distance?
